Liverpool gets £4m revamp

The latest phase of development work aimed at improving the customer experience for departing passengers is now under way at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL).

Some £4m is being invested in a refurbishment and upgrade of 2,000 sq m of the upper floor of the departures lounge to bring it into line with areas of the terminal that have undergone similar improvements over the past 18 months.

The latest works, being undertaken by local building and shopfitting companies, are expected to be completed next June and are taking place in the first area passengers enter after completing security screening.

The latest work includes a reconfigured retail area for both new and existing retail partners, new washroom facilities, large flight information screens and new seating to create a lighter and brighter passenger environment.

Earlier this year, the airport completed the first phase of terminal improvements after investing £2.5m in a number of new and improved facilities. Surveys asking for passengers’ views reveal a “thumbs-up” to the improvements.

Interim commercial manager David Taylor said: “We are looking to create a real ‘wow factor’ for passengers as we welcome them into the departure lounge to build on the positive passenger feedback following the completion of the first phase.”
