Giant balloons tethered to a Hong Kong top hotel marked the 150th anniversary last month of one of the region’s leading companies, the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotel group (HSH).
The group, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and currently the oldest registered company on the Hong Kong Companies Registry, marked the event with a spectacular party heralded by the balloons at its Peninsula Hotel in the city of its birth.
Today, the HSH legacy encompasses a diverse portfolio of assets worth HK$44.2bn (about £4.5bn), including 10Peninsula Hotels around the world and the Peak Tram, the Peak Tower and the Repulse Bay Complex, all in Hong Kong.
The giant balloons at the special celebration welcomed a line-up of special guests and government officials attending the event including HSH chairman Sir Michael Kadoorie and CEO Clement King Man Kwok.
Sir Michael said: "Tradition is taking account of a wonderful history, but remembering that everybody looks to the future. Our rich history gives us a fuller understanding of our shared identity, culture and values, enabling us to safeguard the best of the past and keep innovating."
