New technology is being installed at Nice Airport in France after a big increase in passenger numbers persuaded officials to make the investment “to make people’s experience within the airport more seamless”.
Nice is France’s second-biggest airport, with around 12m passengers a year and hosting more than 50 airlines serving 103 destinations in 30 countries. It is also the only airport in France outside Paris to offer flights to New York and Dubai. Some 20% of Nice's visitors are business travellers.
The technology, which coincides with a refurbishment of the Terminal 1 retail area, incorporates SITA's beacon technology into a new multi-functional app to guide passengers through the new range of outlets and circulation areas. The move will be even more useful later this year when a new commercial area is launched within Terminal 2.
Beacons installed throughout the terminal allow passengers to receive real-time information wherever they are. The technology is accessed via an Application Programming Iinterface (API), which allows app developers to provide information such as boarding times, baggage tracking, weather and connecting flight information.
Passengers using the app also receive retail offers and information and airport Premier Gold Club members can access fast-track security by being able to use automatically their frequent-flyer cards.
