Four Seasons goes downtown

New York’s reborn Downtown area has been given a new boost with the opening of a Four Seasons hotel in the Tribeca neighbourhood a short distance from Wall Street, the World Trade Centre and the futuristic new Oculus rail interlink complex.

With general manager Peter Humig in charge, the property has 189 rooms and suites ranging from 37sq m (400sq ft) to 223sq m (2,400sq ft) with marble bathrooms and deep-soak tubs.

“Downtown New York has been reborn as the most vibrant neighbourhood in the city,” Humig said, noting that the hotel is also convenient for designer shopping in New York’s SoHo area, nightlife in the Meatpacking District and the leisure opportunities of the city’s waterfront.

Meeting facilities include the Greenwich Ballroom, which can host up to 175 guests. Two additional rooms provide options for smaller functions or breakout sessions.

Other features include celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck’s first Manhattan restaurant, CUT, seating 80 in the main dining room, 32 in the lounge and up to 31 in a more intimate space off the main dining room; and a state-of-the art 560sq m (6,000sq ft) fitness centre with a 23m (75ft) indoor lap pool.
