Matthew Bell, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), has been confirmed as keynote speaker at a conference on Delivering Sustainable Growth in Aviation taking place at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London today and tomorrow (17-18 October).
Other guests at the event, organised by the society’s Greener by Design specialist group, include IATA environmental policy manager Michel Adam and Gatwick’s Airport Noise Management Board secretary Graham Lake
The conference is discussing both the local and global environmental challenges faced by the aviation industry, with sessions including industry developments relating to noise, with presentations from Rolls-Royce, Airbus, AOA and NATS; and managing and regulating noise at airports, including examples from Australia, France and Germany.
Also under discussion are air quality, including a presentation by the Department for Transport; and “Aviation CO2 and Beyond”, with presentations from the University of Reading and Cranfield University.
Global market-based measures for aviation is another subject, with IATA, IAG and others exploring the question along with the strengths and weaknesses of market-based options and the impact of the carbon market.
