Singapore Airlines Heathrow celebration

In the same week that Heathrow celebrates its 70th anniversary, Singapore Airlines is celebrating 45 years since its first flight landed at the airport on 3 June 1971.

In the years between the first flight and last week’s anniversary, Singapore Airlines has celebrated a number of historical moments at Heathrow, including the arrival of the UK’s first A380 flight, which the airline, the launch customer, operated to the airport on 18 March 2008.

London was the second city to receive the new aircraft after its inaugural flight between Singapore and Sydney on 27 October 2007.

Just 16 months later, Singapore Airlines celebrated its one millionth A380 passenger, who flew from Heathrow in February 2009 on the way to New Zealand via Singapore.

For a short period during the late 1970s/early 1980s, SIA and British Airways together operated a Concorde flight between London and Singapore. The aircraft was jointly branded, carrying a different livery down each side.

SIA general manager UK/Ireland Sheldon Hee said: “We have continually brought new levels of customer experience to the UK consumer since we started flying here and look forward to continuing this trend over the years to come.”
