Latin America hots up

Growing interest and increasing competition in the Latin America market is continuing to be reflected in new air services.

Air Europa of Spain has increased flight operations to Latin America with new direct routes from Madrid to Bogota and Guayaquil with multiple connections from London, Frankfurt, Munich, Milan, Rome, Lisbon and Prague.

The airline will also launch a new four-times-a-week flight to Argentina’s historic city of Cordoba from 18 December from Asuncion, with connections via Madrid.

Air Europa has also launched an on board wi-fi service allowing passengers to stay connected while travelling on flights to Havana, Bogota and São Paulo. The airline says all long distance routes will have the service in due course.

Elsewhere, Chile-based LATAM has additional new routes planned this year, including a service between São Paulo and Johannesburg scheduled to start on 2 October.

Next month, the airline, formed from the consolidation of Chile’s LAN Airlines and the Brazil-based carrier TAM and their affiliates, will increase flight frequencies from São Paulo to Barcelona with a daily service.

LATAM also plans to launch the first non-stop service between Washington DC and Lima, Peru, with four flights a week.

A Lima – Mendoza route is planned for February (see also BTN 9 May).
