It may well be revealed at ITB Berlin, which starts on Wednesday (9 March). Qatar Airways is working on a new ‘Super Business Class’. This could be ready for a roll out from the autumn and will clearly stretch competitors whose own products are on some cases looking dated.
Qatar has withdrawn First Class on many routes leaving it only for prestigious and high profile operations such as Heathrow – Doha, served by A380s.
Chief executive Akbar Al Baker has often stated that the airline does not offer a Premium Economy product as he believes that its own ‘back of aircraft’ section is better than the Y+ offered by some others. Could this be the next for a revamp?
Details are still sparse but the new design, which is patented for QA, will have sliding doors to make the seat a suite-like cabin. The middle seats will turn into double beds.
Baker has indicated this will be a very special design, something that no one has seen before and which everyone will love. He is known to be a man of his words, so this can be an exciting wait. He also noted that, unlike in private suites, there will not be a sense of claustrophobia in these reclining Business Class suite-like seats. www.qatarairways.com
