ACI Europe has published its preliminary airport figures for 2015 which again has Heathrow as the region's busiest airport but also shows most of the continental airports slightly catching up.
What the passenger numbers show very clearly is that London as a conurbation is far ahead of any other European city, around 140m passengers passing through its six scheduled service airports last year, and is also, with Heathrow and Gatwick, the only city to have two airports in the top ten.
Annual passengers in 2015 (growth)
Heathrow | 75.0m | 2.2% | |
Paris Charles de Gaulle | 66.0m | 3.1%
Istanbul Atatürk | 61.8m | 9.1%
Frankfurt | 61.0m | 2.5% | |
Amsterdam Schiphol | 58.3m | 6.0%
Madrid–Barajas | 46.8m | 12.0%
Munich | 41.0m | 3.2% | |
Rome Fiumicino | 40.4m | 5.0%
Gatwick | 40.0m | 5.7% | |
