Garuda Indonesia is to begin non-stop services from London to Jakarta 31 March. The introduction coincides with a move of its operation from Gatwick to Heathrow. Previously the airline served the Indonesian capital via Amsterdam. Return flights to the UK will be via Singapore. The move to Heathrow is part of Garuda Indonesia’s strategy to strengthen its presence in Europe and meet its commitment as the national flag carrier. Capacity restraints at T4 means that Garuda will move into the central area at T3 rather than Skyteam T4, but it will probably work better for the airline offering easier connections to both UK domestic and regional flights.
Jubi Prasetyo, general manager UK & Ireland, says: “Flying non-stop direct to Jakarta means we will truly be the most efficient way to reach Indonesia from the UK.” There are easy connections to Bali and the route will serve as another alternative for points within Australasia.
The new Heathrow service will continue to utilise the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three-class award winning configuration. www.garuda-indonesia.com
