Perhaps it is because of his impending role as chief executive of British Airways, but certainly Alex Cruz at his current employ, Vueling, has been taking an interest in the UK and adding British routes. Just announced and starting 30 March is Gatwick to Santiago de Compostela in North East Spain three times a week, complementing the well-established (2009) daily Heathrow service to La Coruña, on the Atlantic coast and 35 miles to the north.
With this new addition, Vueling offers 28 routes between 12 airports in the UK and Ireland to destinations in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
From Gatwick, the airline serves Barcelona, Bilbao, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Rome-Fiumicino, and Florence. From Heathrow Vueling is the only airline with flights to La Coruña, offering five daily from T3.
Luton to Barcelona and Amsterdam was recently made public competing head-on with easyJet. www.vueling.com
