Airline Industry awards

Carolyn McCall, chief executive of easyjet, has been made a Dame in the New Year Honours list for her services to the aviation industry. 

In 2008 she was given the OBE for services to women in business in the Queen's Birthday Honours List and was named Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year. 

McCall joined easyJet in July 2010 from the Guardian Newspaper Group, helping the airline achieve record profits in 2012 and enter the FTSE 100 the following year.  She saw off attempts by founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou to clip her wings, the shares rising from 440p at her arrival to the current 1750p. Last year she was asked by Prime Minister David Cameron to join his Business Advisory Group and was named business leader of the year at the National Business Awards.

Other industry recipients include Barry Humphreys, the former chairman of the British Air Transport Association (BATA), and ex-Virgin Atlantic too, with a CBE, the same honour to Nicola Shaw, CEO of HighSpeed 1 and lately non-executive director of Aer Lingus.  OBEs went to Kevin Leslie Murphy, formerly chair of Excel London, for his services to business tourism, and to Marc Russell Owen, director of Border Force at Heathrow, for services to border security and immigration policy development.   www.easyjet.com
