India’s Jet Airways is moving its European gateway from Brussels to Amsterdam Schiphol at the end of March following an agreement with KLM. The airline will add daily links to Amsterdam from Delhi, Mumbai and an onward service to Toronto.
Jet says the move will enable it to increase its coverage of the European market on a codeshare basis. Alongside its existing Brussels services, it currently serves only two other European points, Heathrow (daily from Delhi and twice daily from Mumbai) and Paris Charles De Gaulle (daily from Mumbai).
Jet currently offers a mini-hub operation at Brussels with daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai connecting in the Belgian capital to daily continuation flights to New York Newark and Toronto.
But it says changes to its business strategy after Etihad Airways became an equity partner mean this demand is being more efficiently handled via Abu Dhabi.
These flights will end from 27 March and will be replaced by daily A330-300 flights from both the Delhi and Mumbai hubs to Amsterdam. The onward connection to Toronto will be retained via the Dutch airport, but flights to Newark will be suspended. www.jetairways.com
