Scots growth for easyJet

EasyJet is expanding its Scottish operations by adding an extra aircraft at Edinburgh from next summer, bringing the total to eight operating 36 routes.

The airline launched services this year from Edinburgh to Stuttgart and Funchal and from Glasgow to Marrakech, Milan and Bordeaux.

In 2016, it will start services from Edinburgh to Vienna and Venice and from Glasgow to Marseille.

EasyJet flew 5.5m passengers between Scotland and Europe in the year to September and expects this to grow in the coming year by 10%.

The airline also employs 435 crew in Scotland, 159 in Glasgow and 276 in Edinburgh. With the addition of the eighth aircraft, easyJet expects to have more than 300 employees based in Edinburgh including pilots, cabin crew and base management.

Chief executive Carolyn McCall said: “In the past four years, we have grown our capacity in Scotland by 20% and 2015 has been an impressive year for us here – we now operate 62 routes from Scotland across Europe.

“This eighth aircraft at Edinburgh will accommodate the extra routes we have put on sale and the extra demand."   www.easyjet.com
