Crystal’s new heights of luxury

Luxury cruise line Crystal is acquiring a Boeing B777-200LR to join its previously-announced B787-8 Dreamliner in offering holidays around the world under its expanded brand extension Crystal Luxury Air.

Crystal says it plans to reconfigure the B787, which typically seats up to 300, to take just 52 passengers. Trips will include accommodation at the world’s top hotels, fine dining prepared by celebrated chefs and local cultural entertainment.

The twin-aisle B777 will be redesigned for 88 passengers and will feature flat-bed seats and a lounge and bar. It will offer 14- and 28-day round-the-world and international itineraries, beginning in 2017.

Crystal’s expansion of its activities follows its acquisition by the global hospitality and leisure company the Genting Group (BTN 3 August). An immediate result was the news that the company had ordered three 100,000 ton ships from the German yard Lloyd Werft.

Crystal chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said: “Our mission is to make Crystal the core of what will become the world’s premier luxury hospitality and lifestyle brand collection, not only for the immediate future but for years to come.

“The acquisition of our second luxury aircraft is another profound step toward establishing our goal.” www.crystalcruises.co.uk
