China’s carriers are continuing their expansion programmes as more of the population become able to travel, with Hainan Airlines’ subsidiary Capital Airlines opening two international routes, Zhanjiang – Bangkok and Beijing – Male, last week.
Capital has a 54-strong fleet of 22 Airbus A319s, 31 A320s and one A330 and says it plans to take delivery of two more A330s this year and expand the long-haul fleet to more than 30 aircraft over the next five years.
Its first A330 weekly long-haul intercontinental route was between, Hangzhou – Copenhagen and was launched on 3 September, with a weekly Beijing – Copenhagen service following three days later.
The airline has also applied to China’s Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) to open two new long-haul intercontinental routes, one between Hangzhou – Madrid next month and the second between Qingdao – Melbourne next July. www.jdair.net/en/index.jsp
