The first non-stop flights to California’s Silicon Valley from a European airport are being launched in April when Lufthansa begins service between Frankfurt and San Jose.
The five-times-weekly service will use the Airbus A340-300 offering Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy.
The westbound service will depart from Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub in the morning and arrive in San Jose in the early afternoon after a 12hr flight. Eastbound services will depart San Jose in the afternoon and arrive in Frankfurt the following morning. The airline says the schedules have been designed to provide “best possible” connections with other Lufthansa services to and from Germany, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Services are likely to be popular with business travellers, San Jose lying in the heart of Silicon Valley, home to many of the most famous names in the internet world and leading companies in the biotech, pharmaceuticals and medical areas.
San Jose’s airport is increasingly developing into an international hub, opening a new terminal for the sector and subsequently welcoming new non-stop services to Tokyo and Beijing, among other destinations. www.lufthansa.com
