Gatwick lands BA Kennedy service

After a seven-year absence, British Airways will launch daily direct Boeing 777-200 flights from Gatwick to New York on 1 May, making it the only carrier to fly to the US destination from all three of London’s main airports – Gatwick, Heathrow and London City.

BA2273 will depart daily from Gatwick at 16:40, arriving at New York’s JFK airport at 19:30.

The return BA2272 will depart JFK at 22:00, arriving at Gatwick at 10:00 the next day. The 777 will offer 40 seats in Club World, 24 in World Traveller Plus and 216 in World Traveller.

The airline said the flight has been timed to allow maximum connection capability with its network of short-haul flights to 112 destinations across Europe.

BA operated the LGW-JFK route from 1988-2002 and again from 2008-2009, but it was then suspended for what the airline called commercial reasons.

The new service is the latest in a range of new routes started and available this year from Gatwick by BA, including flights to Cagliari, Madeira, Seville, Sharm El Sheikh and Vienna.

A new service between Gatwick and San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica starts on 27 April, and the only direct flights between Lima and Gatwick, start on 4 May.  www.britishairways.com   www.gatwickairport.com
