Up and away for CS100

Bombardier’s all-new C-Series CS100 aircraft has successfully completed more than 90% of its certification programme and is now in the final stage of flight testing, the company said last week.

Production ramp-up is also under way, including work on the first aircraft for launch operator SWISS (See BTN 26 August).

Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, said the last phase of flight testing put the company on track to certify by the end of 2015.

Bombardier said noise performance testing had been completed and data confirmed the CS100 was the quietest in-production commercial jet in its class.

The company announced earlier this year that the aircraft's maximum range had been confirmed to be up to 6,112km, some 648km more than originally targeted.

The CS100 was also said to be delivering more than a 20% fuel burn advantage compared to in-production aircraft, and a greater than 10% advantage compared to re-engined aircraft.

This means one C Series aircraft could reduce an operator's carbon emissions by up to 6,000 tons a year.

Bombardier has booked orders and commitments for 603 C-Series aircraft, of which 243 are firm orders.  http://news.commercialaircraft.bombardier.com/c-series
