Adelaide joins Qatar network

Daily non-stop flights between Doha and Adelaide (ADL) will be launched by Qatar Airways next May, the airline said on Tuesday.

It is part of a major expansion by Qatar Airways into Australia, with daily flights to Sydney from 1 March also announced recently.

Adelaide will be the first destination in Australia to see the airline’s state-of-the-art A350, for which Qatar is the global launch customer.

The airline said flying a long-haul service to ADL, a key business destination, will enable it to maximise the A350’s efficiency and performance and allow Australia-bound passengers their first opportunity to try the world’s newest aircraft.

The addition of Adelaide increases Qatar Airways’ capacity to Australia to 28 flights a week, with Melbourne, Perth and Sydney also served.

Elsewhere, Qatar Airways has signed a deal with BA franchise partner Sun-Air of Denmark for codeshare flights between Billund, Aalborg and Aarhus in Jutland, the western part of Denmark.

The pact also involves several European destinations including Oslo, Brussels, Manchester and Munich.

Qatar said the deal would lead to new connections between Denmark and a large number of business destinations including Singapore, Mumbai, Bangkok and Shanghai.  www.qatarairways.com    www.sun-air.dk

I like the idea of Qatar Airways opening up more gateways in Australia, starting with Adelaide.
