Flight and noise data collected by Manchester Airport’s new aircraft monitoring and tracking system can now be accessed online.
WebTrak allows members of the public to see for themselves flight activity within 30 miles of the airport. The system uses radar data from National Air Traffic Services and noise data from monitoring terminals around the airport and shows a map of the region with details of all aircraft taking off and landing.
The technology has been developed by Bruel and Kjaer, with input from both the airport’s Environment and Community teams.
Wendy Sinfield, Community Relations Manager at the airport, said: "We recognise aircraft landing and taking off can affect people. With flight and noise information available on the internet, anyone can go online and use the system to find details of a particular flight including airline, aircraft type and destination.
"Local residents can also locate their properties on a map and calculate the height that the aircraft was flying above and the distance from them and if they have a comment or concern about a particular flight they can report it to us using the same system." www.manchesterairport.co.uk http://webtrak5.bksv.com/man2
