Southend Airport has been named best in Britain and Newcastle the UK’s top large airport in a nationwide poll of readers by Which? magazine. It is the third year running for both.Voters were asked to share their experiences of airports in the UK and Southend topped the list with an 86% score, one point up on last year. Newcastle scored 72% in its category.
Southend was handed the number-one spot in the annual Which? airport passenger survey with an 86% satisfaction score from customers, one percentage point up on last year.
Points were awarded for the quality of an airport’s check-in experience, food outlets, seating and selected other categories. Southend took the top 5-star rating in four of the seven categories, while Newcastle, which has more than 4m passengers a year, scored particularly highly for the way it handled queues at security, bag drop and passport control.
Bottom of the poll were Stansted and Luton, each of which scored 40% and were criticised for queues, overcrowding and lack of seating.
For Newcastle, the Which? vote follows an exciting period, with its United Airlines service to New York returning for summer 2016, as well as new flights to Barcelona with Spanish carrier Vueling. www.southendairport.com www.newcastleairport.com www.which.co.uk
