BA’s new-look Jumbos

New entertainment systems and interiors to match those found on new-generation aircraft are being installed by British Airways on 18 of its Boeing 747 fleet.

The first new-look Jumbo took to the skies from Heathrow to New York last week.

The revamped aircraft will operate on selected flights to Boston, Chicago, Dubai, Kuwait, Lagos, New York JFK and Riyadh, with further routes added next summer.

The new Panasonic eX3 entertainment system gives passengers more than 1,300 hours of inflight escapism including more than 130 movies and 400 TV programmes on larger touch-and-swipe hi-resolution screens. The lightweight system also helps to reduce the amount of fuel used by the aircraft.

Passengers in World Traveller Plus will now have access to a universal power socket at every seat, while World Traveller customers will have personal USB sockets to power phones and tablets.

The refit, which has been carried out by British Airways' engineers in Cardiff, will include a cabin interior refresh including new seat foams in World Traveller and World Traveller Plus to increase customer comfort and new-style seat covers to match those on the A380 and 787. Carpets and curtains throughout the 747s are also being replaced.   www.britishairways.com
