Norwegian expansion at Cork

Direct low-cost transatlantic services from Cork to Boston are being launched by Norwegian next May, with flights from Cork to New York to follow in 2017.

They will be the only transatlantic flights to operate from the Irish airport. A new route between Cork and Barcelona is also scheduled to begin in May.

The airline says the new routes form part of its plans for continued expansion in the UK and Ireland and will be operated under its Irish subsidiary Norwegian Air International.

Both the Cork – Boston route and Cork – Barcelona services will have up to five flights a week. The New York schedule has not yet been announced, nor have fare levels for any of the flights.

Norwegian already offers what it claims are the UK’s only low-cost long-haul flights from Gatwick to New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Boston, with fares from £149. The airline says with a series of new-generation Boeing 737 aircraft on order, it can now plan the additional long-haul services from Cork. Airport.  www.norwegian.com
