Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines proved this week that travellers no longer have to go to an airport to experience an airport lounge by showcasing their latest joint venture with a lavish launch party. Open to all-comers seven days a week, the NY-LON lounge bar at the 02 in London is a celebration of the two carriers’ most important route, between London and New York.
The partners marked the occasion of its official opening by hosting 300 guests and frequent flyers, greeted by Tim Mapes, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Delta, and Reuben Arnold, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Customer Experience at Virgin Atlantic, to experience some inflight-style hospitality in the iconic music and entertainment venue.
Designed to bring the chic style of New York to the East End of London, NY-LON features signature cocktails based on the classic Manhattan, whiskey sour and Tom Collins recipes. Examples include the Flying Lady, after Virgin’s emblem, and the Cropduster, recalling Delta’s humble origins. Food pays homage to favourite British and American dishes – such as roast duck or Brooklyn crab salad. Entertainment featured live music from iconic hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash and neo-soul artist Lion Babe. www.ny-lon.london
