Stansted's passenger record

Stansted topped the 2m passenger mark for the fourth consecutive month in August with record numbers on each flight. The average load factor was also a record at 93.5%.

The 2.2m passengers passing through the terminal represented an increase of 9.7% over the same month last year and saw the busiest August at Stansted since 2008. It was also the 17th consecutive month of traffic growth.

The total number of passengers flying from Stansted in the year was more than 21.9m, an increase of 16.3% over the previous 12 months and the highest annual rate of growth of any major UK airport.

Stansted has an exciting few months ahead. An £80m terminal redevelopment project is due for completion this autumn and more new air services are on the way, including easyJet to Reykjavik, Germanwings to Vienna and SAS to Gothenburg.

Stansted is the third largest airport in London and fourth in the UK, with nearly 22m passengers a year. It has approval for 35m ppa, making it the only London airport with space and permission to grow within its existing infrastructure.  www.stanstedairport.com

Carole Leach, uk

This may be good news for Stansted but the passenger experience is truly awful. There is so much 'retail opportunity' that there is no room for passengers to wait, the flight information boards are so crowded it is impossible to read them and at times it has been impossible to get off the train at immigration because the hall is packed tight. MAG staff shouting at people to get off the train doesn't help when there is nowhere to go. Come on MAG, you can do better and I am avoiding Stansted whenever possible at the moment.
