You cannot have a more central spot in Lisbon. Just opened is the Pousada de Lisboa – Praça do Comércio, part of Pestana Hotel Group.
The new hotel is half way between Rossio regional railway station, and the riverside line that runs down to Estoril and Cascais, each about 10 minutes’ walk.
Santa Apolonia Station for Madrid is less than five minutes by taxi at most. The hotel is 5 miles from Lisbon International Airport.
The building sits on the edge of Praҁa do Comércio square, and was once the Ministry of Internal Affairs and also housed the office of Salazar – the country’s infamous dictator.
Working hand in glove with the Pestana Hotel Group, the Pousada’s architect Jaime Morais, has created a 90-room hotel with a luxurious boutique feel which benefits from 18th century high ceilings and original structural features. Rooms have views over the river and the iconic São Jorge castle. Bathrooms are very modern, complete with oversized rain showers and local Portuguese amenities by Castelbel. The Pousada also offers an indoor swimming pool, spa and fitness centre. www.pestana.com/uk/hotel/pousada-lisboa
