Southend appointments

Two industry specialists have been appointed by Stobart Aviation, operator of the airports at Southend and Carlisle Lake District, to spearhead its operations. Glyn Jones becomes Chief Executive Officer of Stobart and Jon Horne steps up as Chief Operating Officer.

Jones has held a number of senior roles, including that of Managing Director at Luton and Bournemouth Airports, as well as Palletline, and was Commercial Director at DHL International.

Horne started working in aviation in 1973 as an air traffic control assistant and has been in the industry ever since, rising through the ranks to become Chief Executive of Cardiff International Airport before joining the Stobart Group’s Southend operation in March this year as Interim Managing Director.

More than £120m has been invested in Southend by the Stobart Group since 2008 and the airport now serves Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Faro, Geneva, Ibiza, Jersey, Majorca, Malaga, Menorca, Tenerife and Venice with easyJet.  Flights to Lanzarote start in November and to Lyon in December.

Flybe, operated by Stobart Air, has departures to Rennes, Groningen, Munster Osnabruck and Caen Normandie. There are also flights to Bern with SkyWork Airlines and Maribor (Slovenia) with Adria Airways.    www.southendairport.com
