Aeroflot and Transaero

Russia’s two largest airlines are to become one with Aeroflot acquiring a 75% stake in its struggling competitor Transaero for just a single rouble.  At London’s Heathrow Airport Transaero already operates out of T4, as does Aeroflot, a member of Skyteam whose lounge both airlines use.  However Aeroflot flies to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport and Transaero Domodedovo.

"Transaero will be completely overhauled and integrated into the Aeroflot group," an Aeroflot spokesman was quoted as saying by RIA news agency. Aeroflot is 51% owned by the Russian State, whose initiative is behind the takeover of the airline.

At the same time Airbus announced the postponement of the delivery of the airline's first A380 due later this year.  It has four of the superjumbos on order.  If the aircraft were to be cancelled this would bring the total A380 firm bookings down to 307 with 167 delivered and a little over four years production left at current volumes.  This figure includes 20 ordered by leasing company Amedeo, none which has, as yet, been placed. www.aeroflot.com/cms/en    www.transaero.com
