Brooklands goes 4D

Opened to critical acclaim last year with its spectacular Napier-Railton race experience, Brooklands Museum’s 4D Theatre, now features two additional rides – an aerobatic sortie with the Royal Air Force’s renowned Red Arrows display team, and a riveting ride around the famed Le Mans circuit with Mike Hawthorn in his D-Type Jaguar.  The two extra rides help to bring to life the fascinating connections between Brooklands motorsport and aviation.

In the Red Arrows experience, after a tantalising glimpse of the runway and a dissection of their trademark red Hawk T1 jet aircraft, riders are suddenly in the cockpit as a spectacular aerobatic display plays out all around in this breath-taking, full-motion virtual flight experience.  Squadron Leader (ret) Ben Murphy, team leader, Arrows, when the film was made in Cyprus, was joined at the official launch on Friday 21 August by Museum Trustee and British racing legend Tiff Needell and Paul Spence of Metropolis Entertainment, which provided the Brooklands 4D Theatre and produced the films.

The second new film features original footage of British legend Mike Hawthorn in his D-Type Jaguar completing a practice lap of the Le Mans circuit in 1956.

Visitors are strapped into special seating pods that actually move as you loop the loop and take the bends. www.brooklandsmuseum.com
