AND FINALLY: The end for the 737!

Some lesser known facts about the small Boeing.

The BA news (see in this issue) is about a 'plane that has been around since the beginning of (modern) airline times.

The fuselage was designed with the same cross section as the Boeing 727, six abreast rather than its five abreast rivals, the BAC 1-11 and Douglas DC9.  This has been a major factor in its success.  The Airbus A320 series is slightly wider than the 737.

The Next-Generation 737 is as long as it is wide, earning it the nickname of the first “square” aircraft.  More than 474 airlines in 129 countries fly 737s

The 737 has flown more than 119 billion miles; equivalent to approximately 640 round trips from the earth to the sun

The 737 family has carried more than 18.4 billion passengers; that is equivalent to every single man, woman and child flying at least twice. (2013 world population was 7.1bn).
