Ahead of schedule Singapore Airlines has entered the Premium Economy market, launching the new class on board its Sydney – Singapore route last week. (see BTN 9 February 2015)
The new cabin features a width of either 18.5 inches (47cms) or 19.5 inches (49.5cms), depending on aircraft type, with a 20cm recline and a seat pitch (legroom) of 38 inches (96cms) and featuring two USB ports and a power supply.
Passengers also receive noise-cancelling headphones and can watch entertainment on a 34cm (13.4”) HD screen, which Singapore claims is the largest in its class. Passengers receive a 35kg baggage allowance and have the option of pre-ordering their meals from a selection of main courses.
Singapore Airlines is retrofitting 19 Airbus A380s and 19 Boeing 777-300ERs which will also feature on its new A350s starting to arrive in early 2016.
The Sydney – Singapore route is the first to feature the new class, with 18 more routes to follow, starting with Hong Kong and London later this month. www.singaporeair.com
