Vietnam visas and the 787

With Vietnam Airlines due to inaugurate Boeing 787 services between both Hanoi and Ho Chi Min to Heathrow on Tuesday 1 September the country’s government has decided to relax visa requirements.  The 11hr flight is the only non-stop service between the UK and Vietnam.  Vietnam Airlines is part of STAR Alliance.

In what is a major breakthrough for the communist state British, German, French, Spanish and Italian citizens can travel to Vietnam (for all purposes) for a period of up to 15 days, on the basis of meeting all conditions prescribed by Vietnamese laws.  This is bound to open up the country for more tourism from the UK and further demonstrates how far the state has moved since it was effectively at war with the US.

After the handover at Washington’s Ronald Reagan National Airport (See  BTN  20 July) the lead Dreamliner has now arrived in Vietnam.  It is the first of 19.  Fourteen Airbus A350-900 XWBs are also on order with the first one delivered.  www.vietnamairlines.com
