Goodwood Revival and aeroplanes

Put the dates in your diary, and book well ahead, if you are into fighter aircraft, and others, from World War II.  The skies over the Sussex Downs will be alive to the roar of Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, 11-13 September, as the Goodwood Revival marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

More than 30 iconic British wartime aircraft, comprising Supermarine Spitfires, Hawker Hurricanes and the world’s only airworthy Bristol Blenheim, are set to make up the exhibition, which will run for the duration of the event and honour the courageous air crews that flew them in battle.

The Goodwood Revival will also mark 50 years since the debut of one of the most iconic GT cars of all time – the Shelby Daytona Coupe – with a never-before-seen collection of the V8 racers.  Just six Daytona Coupes were ever produced and all of them are set to appear at the Revival.  Based originally on the British AC-Ace, the Cobra came into being after legendary American racer Carroll Shelby – one of only two men to win at Le Mans in an Aston Martin – began fitting Ford V8 engines and strengthened gearboxes to re-bodied machines from the Thames Ditton-based constructor.     https://grrc.goodwood.com/goodwood-revival
