The partnership between Virgin Atlantic (VS) and Delta Air Lines (DL), 49% owner of Virgin, is to be further cemented this coming winter.
Effective 7 October Delta is to drop its daily flight from Heathrow to Los Angeles. From that date onwards Virgin Atlantic will be twice daily on the route but also carrying a DL code-share. It is also flown by Air New Zealand, American Airlines and British Airways.
Delta has also confirmed that at the same time it will suspend its service between Heathrow and Newark, concentrating on its hub at Kennedy.
Delta and Virgin Atlantic will now offer eight non-stop daily flights between Heathrow and New York-JFK all of them from Heathrow T3 where eligible passengers can use the Virgin Clubhouse outbound, and have choice of either airlines’ arrivals facility landside.
“One of the focuses of the joint venture partnership is to ensure that we serve the routes our customers want to fly with the right aircraft. We will continue to evaluate our network and look at future opportunities between the United Kingdom and United States. Together, Delta and Virgin Atlantic offer up to 39 daily flights this summer between the two countries to 15 non-stop destinations including Atlanta, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and Seattle,” said a spokesperson. www.delta.com www.virgin-atlantic.com
