Airports Commission Chairman to speak

Runways UK has confirmed that Sir Howard Davies, Chairman of the Airports Commission, will formally open the London Conference on 6 July with a video speech.  Due to previous commitments his attendance will be much later in the day having arrived hotfoot from Heathrow.  Philip Graham, Head of the Airports Commission Secretariat, will speak on Day Two.

It is assumed that Sir Howard’s long awaited report will have been published by then with a recommendation as to the siting of the next runway to be built in the South East of England.

The first day of Runways UK 2015 will include analysis of, and reaction to, this recommendation from key stakeholder groups, together with discussion on the way forward in terms of the Government’s decision.

Day two looks at optimisation of existing resources in the short and medium terms, and the generation of additional capacity through technological innovation.  With respect to the long-term recommendation, it will also examine the "what next?" in policy and planning terms – the timing of a government decision and its subsequent process through parliament; mitigation of local impacts; compensation and community engagement, and its broader strategic planning implications.
