Car hire problems at Stansted

Since last Friday (8 May) Stansted has become less friendly for business travellers (and others) collecting their hire cars with the airport moving the pick-up point from in front of the terminal to what is termed the “Car Rental Village” a shuttle ride away.

The move was described as "daft" by one international operator saying that it will add up to 45 minutes in vehicle collection time.  “If our clients have luggage, and perhaps children in tow as well, it will change a pleasurable experience to one fraught with problems.”  Previously collection for most brands was in the airport’s lower drop-off area.

All airports have different arrangements depending on the space available.  Gatwick in particular is exceptionally good with large multi-storey car parks in front of both terminals.  Avis has its own facility at Heathrow T5 but at London’s main airport a bus ride is required with most operators.  www.stanstedairport.com

Mark Davison,

The £3.8m project not only enables car rental operators to develop new and enhanced customer service products for an anticipated 400,000 passengers a year but also creates an additional 700 new short stay car parking spaces, which are always in high demand, especially by business travellers, and frees up landside space in the terminal for new facilities for the benefit of all passengers. The new car rental village is connected to the terminal by a dedicated 10 minute passenger shuttle which runs from outside the International Arrivals area on the inner lane of the forecourt direct to the new Village.
