Stand up desk

Following our story regarding keeping fit and yoga (see BTN 30 March) another means of keeping fit has come our way.  The World Health Organisation has warned that physical inactivity is the fourth biggest killer on the planet, ahead of obesity.

The VARIDESK allows you to work from either a standing or a sitting position, and makes it easy for you to switch positions as often as you like.  It’s an adjustable platform that sits on top of your existing desk.

When you feel the need to stand, simply raise the Varidesk up using the convenient handles on either side.  Reverse the process to return to a seated position. You can also download the Varidesk app, which will remind you hourly to stand up.

Research shows that staying in your chair for 10 or more hours a week can be directly linked to weight gain, back issues and circulatory problems in the long run. In contrast, standing seems to reverse many of these illnesses.
