The new Tri-Rail Miami International Airport Station is now finally open, as part of the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC). The original station was closed in 2011 to allow for what is the southernmost station on the 72-mile Florida rail corridor.
MIC is an intermodal facility designed to accommodate several transportation connections. Tri-Rail now joins Miami-Dade Transit’s Metrorail and Metrobus service which already have access to the facility along with the Rental Car Center and taxi service. Anticipated future service includes Amtrak, Greyhound and bicycle lockers. Ft Lauderdale Airport is also on the system.
MIC is connected to the airport via a short ride on the MIA Mover.
South Florida Regional Transportation Authority spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold was quoted by Miami Herald as saying: "The key is connecting the airport to all forms of transportation. "A world-class city needs a world-class transportation hub at its gateway. We're finally getting there." www.miami-airport.com
