Tenerife from London

If you want to fly from Heathrow to Tenerife this summer there is plenty of choice.

IAG has found room in its Heathrow slots package to re-introduce the once popular route, announcing Iberia Express as the operator of a thrice-weekly service into Tenerife’s Reina Sofia airport in the south.

Flights start on 29 March.

Tenerife is somewhat unique as you can now fly direct into the southern airport during the summer from five London airports, that is Gatwick, Luton, Southend, Stansted and now Heathrow, in around 4.5 hours.  The much older northern airport, called Los Rodeos, is only available via Madrid.  British Airways, easyJet, Monarch, Norwegian and Ryanair compete for the business, and now the Iberia ‘low-cost’ offspring.

It is a popular destination for golfers seeking guaranteed sunshine on the fairways. The new Heathrow service will complement the wide range of regular flights already available from many regional airports in the UK and Ireland.

The island features nine completely different courses: Buenavista in the west; Real Club de Golf de Tenerife in the north; and Golf Costa Adeje, Abama, Las Americas, Golf del Sur, Amarilla, and Los Palos in the south. Tecina Golf is a 40-minute ferry ride to La Gomera.  www.webtenerife.co.uk
