The new unimpeded dual carriageway route from the M1 at Junction 10 to Luton Airport should be open well in time for the Christmas getaway. Progress has been much quicker than anticipated and an opening date in early December is expected to be announced shortly. With full planning approval now completed, out for tender is a major airport rebuilding project mainly for the terminal area. This is the initial stage of an ambitious £100m transformation plan to increase annual passenger numbers from 10m to 18m by 2026. With a new train partner, Govia Thameslink Railway, connections to and from London are expected to see significant improvement in the coming months.
In January Nick Barton, a vastly experienced ex-BAA executive and previously holding the senior position at both Aberdeen and Stansted airports, joins as CEO. Current Executive Chairman Clive Condie will revert to Chairman of the Board. www.london-luton.com
