The US-based Swedish-owned luxury food publication Saveur has come up with what its experts say is the world’s best airline food. Sadly the actual third party suppliers are not mentioned.
Few airlines prepare their own food these days although of course they do supervise the various kitchens.Saveur experts’ choice is Emirates for First and Business.
Saveur writes: “Seven-course meals are served on Royal Doulton fine bone china, alongside an extensive range of vintage wines. Award-winning chefs have created menus that are not only exquisite but also healthy, placing a huge emphasis on dishes that are low in fat, salt, and added sugar. Dining in this kind of impeccable luxury is comparable to dining in any gourmet restaurant or 5-star hotel we’ve encountered the world over.”
Oman Air was praised for its “small and intimate cabins” that give a more private feel, and “substantial and lavish” meals.
Etihad Airways, Delta Airlines and Singapore Airlines gain an outstanding mention.
With Economy the choice is Singapore Airlines. With its incredible mix of flavours, the airline’s food service is described as “exquisite and thoughtful”. There are also lots of snacks – and unlimited wine and beverages (including Singapore Slings!).
Outstanding mentions: Turkish Airlines, Korean Air and Virgin Atlantic. www.saveur.com
