Budapest Airport’s first service to Georgia

Wizz Air began its new twice-weekly service from Budapest Airport to Kutaisi  (Georgia) on 30 September, supporting the expansion of its home base in its own route network.

The launch of the 1,920km route means Wizz Air now accounts for 164 sectors, which equates to 22% of all weekly scheduled flights from Budapest. This year the airline has already introduced a weekly service to Alicante from Budapest and twice-weekly service to Kutaisi.

Budapest Airport welcomed 8.5 million passengers in 2013, flying on the airport’s services to 99 destinations across 34 countries and monthly passenger traffic growth in the period to end-August 2014 has risen by more than 7%.

So far this year the airport has launched a Norwegian thrice-weekly service to Gatwick, an Air Serbia daily service to Belgrade, a Jet2.com twice-weekly service to Leeds Bradford, a transavia.com France thrice-weekly service to Paris Orly, a Vueling thrice-weekly service to Barcelona and a Pegasus four-times weekly service to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen.

Emirates Airlines is also expected to introduce a daily service to Dubai starting from 27 October, making this a year to remember for Budapest Airport. www.bud.hu
