Whilst clearly concentrating its efforts on the winter 2014/2015 programme, which starts on Sunday 26 October, and in particular London City Airport, Flybe has announced a fleet makeover starting from next summer. The Exeter-based airline has come to an arrangement with Embraer to terminate an order for 20 EMB175s and to lease in 24 Bombardier Q400s from Republic Airlines, a major US regional carrier that operates on behalf of American Airlines and United. Republic in turn has ordered 50 EMB175s.
From the start of the summer season 2015, at the end of March, the Flybe fleet will consist of 70 aircraft – 45 Bombardier Q400s, 14 Embraer 195s and 11 E175s. Clearly the idea of the new management in moving out of pure jet aircraft has taken a back seat.
At London City the airline is introducing new services to Amsterdam, Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh, Exeter and Inverness, all with Q400. www.flybe.com
