Lufthansa has unveiled its new Premium Economy class, a very promising product featuring a claimed 50% more leg room, one piece table and plenty of foot room. At the same time the airline has launched a world first mobile app – the "Premium Economy Augmented Reality App" – for iPad and iPhone to help raise awareness of the product. The first aircraft fitted with the new Premium Economy will be in service in October with all 106 long haul aircraft being equipped by the end of 2015.
In total 3,600 seats will be available with between 21 and 52 on each aircraft, depending on the aircraft type and configuration.
The product is officially launched on 6 December by which time the entire 747-8 fleet will have the cleverly thought out seating developed by German company ZIM.
There are many product enhancements over the normal Economy, the most obvious being the ability to check-in free of charge two bags weighing up to 23 kg each.
In-flight meals will be served on china tableware and a separate water bottle is provided at every seat. Passengers will be greeted on board with a welcome drink.
Depending on the aircraft 11” or 12” personal screen monitors are provided. www.lufthansa.com
