Today (15 September) sees a new era for Gatwick and Luton airport travellers to and from London. The rail line which connects the two airports, and in fact Bedford to Brighton, becomes Govia Thameslink Railway, joining together Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Southern and Thameslink.
In truth the new management will not make a lot of difference initially, but by 2017 the St Pancras – Cambridge interchange will be finished together with the completion of a major upgrade of the tracks on either side of the Thames, and new rolling stock introduced on both the St Pancras and Victoria routes to Gatwick.
Regular travellers to the South London airport should be aware that for some forthcoming weekends London Bridge will be closed and all trains will cross the Thames at Blackfriars. However there is access from both the north and south sides of the river, the station itself somewhat unique spanning the waterway. Always check schedules if you need airport access from central London on a Saturday or Sunday. http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk www.gtrailway.com
