Last week Business Travel News experienced andel’s Hotel Lodz. A full ON TOUR of Lodz (pronounced Woodge, rhyming with huge) will appear in a forthcoming BTN but since the occasion was the property’s fifth birthday a very honourable mention is deserved at this point in time.
Lodz is a major industrial Polish city that has undergone, and is undergoing, a remarkable transformation.
Under 40 years of communism it literally disintegrated leaving a huge derelict wilderness looking for an answer. Factory after factory going to waste. Today it is a vibrant city, perhaps some way to go yet with the scars of collectivism still to be seen. Dell has its European plant in the city.
The 278-guestroom andel’s Hotel Lodz is a showcase of the partnership of the City Council, investors Warimex, and Vienna International Hotels. The conversion of an 1878 weaving mill into a 21st century top quality property is remarkable. No wonder it has gained numerous awards. For marketing purposes listed as a 4-star hotel, it is truly 5-star (at 4-star prices – from €110 per night). It is next door to the Manufaktura shopping mall, as big as anything in the UK, resurrected buildings again, and bubbling. www.vi-hotels.com/en/andels-lodz
