With the autumn we are very much into the awards season. For practical reasons BTN will not be reporting on them all (unless of course your weekly newsletter is up for or has gained a prize), but the daddy of them all, as far as the travel trade is concerned, the TTG event takes place next Monday (15 September). Back in 1953 it was the world’s first travel trade weekly newspaper.
Late last year TTG was acquired from the conglomerate UBM by its management headed by Editor Daniel Pearce, now Managing Director.
The 2014 event is in many ways a further celebration of the 60 years of travel news gathering and of the new team. It all starts at London’s Lyceum Theatre followed by a fabulous after-party at the nearby Savoy hotel on the Strand. For the travel industry it is the place to be seen.
As for the winners we have not a clue. P & O, overall sponsors, have wisely kept out of the cruise line section.
As for the airlines it is between, Air New Zealand, British Airways, Etihad, Monarch Airlines, Oman Air, Thomas Cook Airlines and Thomson Airways. TTG is travel trade rather than specialised business travel, hence the charter carriers. There are all told 28 categories of awards. www.ttgdigital.com/ttg-travel-awards
