Unaccompanied minors

American Airlines says that it is going to change its policy on unaccompanied minors, and charge the US$150 fee each way for youths as old as age 14.  Previously, American charged the US$150 fee only for children ages 5 to 11. This brings it in line with owner US Airways.

Business Travel News has conducted a survey of both British and North American airlines regarding their child flight policy.

In the UK easyJet says it will not accommodate unaccompanied children under 13, unless part of a group (EZ minors).  Flybe has a handling charge of £39 for children between 5 and 13 (JE minors).  With Virgin Atlantic it is a courtesy service.  (VS minors)

USA major carriers all have a fee.

* Delta charges US$100 each way for an unaccompanied minor ages 5 to 14, with an option to buy the service for youths 15 to 17.

* Southwest charges US$50 each way for unaccompanied minors ages 5 to 11.

* United Airlines charges US$150 each way for unaccompanied minors ages 5 to 11.
