BA pre-flight meal booking

British Airways has told Business Travel News that it is to trial an online pre-flight meal selection service on some of its routes.  "We are always looking at ways to enhance our catering and give our customers more choice. We plan to run a trial on a small number of routes, to offer customers travelling in First and Club World the opportunity to pre-select their menu choices in advance of their flight."

The carrier will allow passengers travelling long haul in First and Club World to pre-select their food choices from the inflight menu before they arrive at the airport.

It is thought the trial will take place later this year although no firm dates have been set.

Pre-flight meal booking is not new and was pioneered by Eva Air in the 1990s.  However this is the first time that a hub carrier has tried the idea.  The problem is that the airline’s customers have either forgotten what they have ordered once on board, or would like to change their mind.

Research by Business Travel News shows that, besides Eva Air, Air Asia offers a facility as does the Leeds Bradford British holiday airline Jet2; Monarch Airlines, also in the UK; British charter operator Thomson and Australia’s Jetstar.  Also see British Airways seats www.ba.com
